Snakes in the City is a popular reality series starring snake-catcher Simon Keys and herpetologist Siouxsie Gillet – a reptile-wrangling duo who spend each Durban summer capturing and relocating dangerous snakes. The show is produced by Earth Touch for Nat Geo WILD.

 

For the last three seasons I have been tasked with overseeing the Snake City Fans Facebook page in order to aid the show’s reach and development, and to spread awareness amongst Durbanites about Simon and Siouxsie’s snake-catching services.

 

This role requires the research and implementation of content strategies that not only resonate with local viewers, but also speak to international fans of the show.

 

 

 

Paid promotions were used to grow a strong Durban following, while organic reach continues to draw in fans from further afield.

 

Over the last eighteen months, the Snake City Fans page has grown by 390% and currently has just short of 50k followers. The average engagement rate for 2018 is 11,4% (a figure that is well above industry averages).
